CN 545 Gender and Sexuality

This course introduces concepts of Human Sexuality to the student. This course will focus on developing skills to address a wide range of therapeutic concepts and skills that address a broad range of human sexuality issues that may arise in clinical practice. Human sexuality will be approached from a range of perspectives to include: the six key concepts outlined in the guidelines provided by the Sexuality and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS), biological, developmental, social, and cultural viewpoints, and the impact of these perspectives on clinical practice. Students will critically reflect on the impact of social location, values, beliefs, and personal experience in developing an understanding of human sexuality within the therapeutic setting. Students will learn to inquire about and address issues of sexuality in their work as art therapists and counselors including the use of intakes, assessment, and treatment.
