Addictions Counseling
This program provides the opportunity to elevate the skills and training of behavioral health workers in rural Indiana who want to practice in and improve their own communities. A bachelor's degree qualifies students to sit for the Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC) exam and will prepare them for entry level positions once they pass the exam. The College also is offering a post-baccalaureate certificate in Addictions Counseling which requires 27 credit hours.
To obtain the LAC, the student must pass the LAC exam after completing one of two routes:
1. Bachelor's degree specifically in Addictions (followed by 2 years of practice)
2. Bachelor's degree in related area (e.g. Psychology, Social Work or Human Services) plus post-bachelor's certificate in Addictions Counseling (followed by 2 years of practice).
The addictions counseling major has been developed with a focus on trauma-informed treatment. The bachelor of science degree can be completed within four years and is an excellent choice for a second major along with Psychology, Human Services or Criminology.
