Academic Services
Professional Advising
Professional advising is part of the College’s commitment to its students. Upon enrolling, each student is assigned a professional advisor who helps to plan and monitor the student’s ongoing program of study. The advisor helps the student meet graduation requirements by drawing up academic plans consistent with the student’s background and goals; together the advisor, faculty mentor, and student update this plan each semester. During or between semesters, advisors are available for consultation by phone or email.
Academic Support Team
The College is committed to helping students succeed academically and personally. The Academic Support Team consists of faculty and staff members with the demonstrated ability to balance sympathy and discipline. These members interact regularly with assigned campus and Woods Online students, monitoring each student’s progress, discussing problems and offering suggestions for overcoming obstacles. Faculty, staff, coaches, and advisors have an opportunity to submit early alert notifications which are then used by the Academic Support Team to help promote success for the students.
Information Technology Services
The College makes available to students a wide variety of IT services. New students are provided with a College email account, productivity software and online training materials. A help desk is available for assistance with questions and problems. Students have online access to course materials through a learning management system (woodsonline.smwc.edu); links to the Bookstore provide details on course textbooks and costs. Students may access their accounts, schedules, grades and transcripts through the student portal which is at: https://my.smwc.edu. Wi-Fi is available campus-wide.
Learning Resource Center
The Learning Resource Center (LRC), located on the second floor of Rooney Center, is committed to providing academic support through a variety of success initiatives and resources. One-on-one tutoring is available by appointment for our campus and WOL students through https://smwctutoring.as.me/. Students can also receive writing and other course assistance on a drop-in basis. The drop-in schedule changes each semester based on tutor availability. The LRC serves as a quiet study space and has public computers for student use to complete homework in an academic atmosphere. Athletes and students on academic probation complete their required study tables in the LRC. Additional test preparation resources can be made available upon request for a variety of tests including but not limited to ACT, SAT, PRAXIS, and GRE. Contact LRC@smwc.edu to learn more or schedule a test.
The LRC also provides support for students with documented disabilities. Please visit https://www.smwc.edu/offices-resources/offices/learning-resource-center/students-with-disabilities/ to learn more about registering for academic or housing accommodations.

Library
The Mary and Andrew Rooney Library which is housed within Rooney Center provides access to traditional and online library collections and services. A number of electronic databases, many containing full text articles, are available to authenticated users both on and off campus. Interlibrary loans and “purchase on demand” services allow the library to meet the changing academic needs of students and faculty, whether on campus or online. Rooney Center also provides meeting and classroom spaces to campus and community groups.
