Culture Credit Requirement Exemption

All undergraduate baccalaureate students must complete at least three credit hours of a foreign language or the culture course requirement (WC 150 Intercultural Communication) to fulfill the culture requirement of the Woods Core curriculum.

Exemptions:

Exemption waives the culture course requirement but does not result in credit hours being awarded.

International students (must possess an I-20) will be exempted from this requirement.

French native-speaking students and Spanish native-speaking students (non-international students) may be exempted from the requirement upon successfully interviewing with foreign language faculty.

Study Abroad experiences (minimum of 5 weeks) will be used to exempt students from the culture course requirement. The experience must be successfully completed through a Study Abroad program which has been approved by the Study Abroad coordinator.

Additional requests for the culture course requirement exemption falling outside the stated policy will be considered on an individual basis.
