Similarly, first-year students whose midterm grades indicate more than 1 D or F, will be enrolled in LC 103 for the 2nd 8 weeks to help students re-evaluate their time management and study skills.

Students may be academic suspended for one of the following reasons:

  1. Semester GPA of less than a 1.0
  2. Two consecutive semesters below a 2.0 (one of those on Academic Probation)
  3. Two consecutive semesters of a cumulative GPA below a 2.0 (one of those semesters on Academic Probation)

Appeal of Academic Suspension

Students who are suspended will receive an official email and letter explaining the suspension and the appeal process.

Appeals must:

  1. Be sent via email to Sboyer@smwc.edu and christina.gunderson@smwc.edu within 14 days of the dated suspension letter OR as stated in the suspension letter for quicker semester breaks (i.e. Spring – Summer).
  2. Identify what went wrong the semester, including any extenuating circumstances that affected your success.
  3. Define a detailed plan for what changes will take place for the upcoming semester to prevent a similar academic semester.

Once the appeal deadline has been reached, the Academic Review Board will review the appeals, and communication will be sent to the student via email.
